As a therapist she emphasizes collaboration with other integral people in a person’s life. Therapy commonly focuses on issues such as emotional disorders, school related challenges, social skills and acting out behaviors.
Dr. Sweetland also very much enjoys travelling around the country for speaking engagements around a variety of topics in the areas of child and adolescent development, parenting, education, special needs, and the unique challenges of raising children in the Instant Gratification Generation.
She is the author of Teaching Kids to Think: Raising Confident, Independent, and Thoughtful Children in an Age of Instant Gratification, which is a Nonfiction Book Association award winner, was named a Publisher’s Weekly Select 2015 Parenting Title, and has been translated into nine languages. The book addresses issues that have been prominent in her therapy practice as well as debated regularly by parents, school personnel, and the media. Teaching Kids to Think helps parents learn how to support their children and teens while at the same time helping them develop strong problem-solving skills.
